If I die young....Will I ever be able to talk to you again?

Noooo! I haven't turned suicidal (yet! cause studying to be a vet is starting to break me down!)
But after a fight I had today with my partner I thought what if.... this was the last time we had the time to talk to each other. What if when i went out to the street I got hit by a car and never had the chance to apologise?
  Many times i catch myself and other people too saying things they regret immediately. Sometimes we are so lost in our anger, fury and rage that we just want to hurt the person standing on the other side. We don't care about other people's feelings. We keep hurting them. We never listen. It's me myself and I!
 But when they're gone for good, not necessarily dead, but goners, never looking back, never giving a second glance behind when we loose the chance to say we're sorry, then what? Can we live for the rest of our lives knowing that we've hurt someone irreparably, in a way that he prefers to ignore our very existence.
What is more, what if we are that person that is getting hurt so much that we prefer to protect ourselves by shutting the others out or by never giving another chance. The say you fool me once shame on you, you fool me twice shame on me. So there is only a second chance and not another. Some people need more. But it doesn't necessarily means that we can handle more than one time.
 What if you keep trying to reach someone by being nice and kind. But he/she doesn't. Then when you turn rude and unkind everything is your fault. Then you're the one to blame. Because he/she never listened to what you had to say. It's funny when you're dead how people start listening. Cause oir thoughts much more when we're goners.
 So...the conclusion? I leave to you.

Lucien is 16yo Londoner sick with brain cancer. After his first chemotherapy he is limited to his house as his exhausted body doesn't permit him any more activity than this. Until his fater brings him an old Italian, at east that's what he thinks, notebook. In fact this notebook is a talisman from Talia ,Italy in a parallel world, of the 16th century brough by the Bellezzan regent Rodolpho.

As Lucien falls to sleepholding his notebook he is transfered to Bellezza...and get hiself in trouble. He materialises in the Forbidden day, a day when no one except people born in Bellzza are allowed in the city. If not for Arriana he would be dead. From now on his life is tied with hers. Rodolpho, Silvia the Bellezzan Duchessa, Enrico, Guido Parola, Ferdinando do Chimici all entangled in a lethal dance in which two lives are about to be lost and all of them changed forever shaping the future of Talia!

A great book with a very strong plot and realistic, stong and interesting characters. I couldn't put it down easily the first time. A real page-turnen. I love Talia. A magical place where the rules of our world do not apply all the time.

A must read!

Ένα αριστούργημα! 

Είναι το πρώτο βιβλίο που διαβάζω από τον Γιώργο Γραμματικάκη και πραγματικά με συνεπήρε. Ήταν δώρο της καθηγήτριας Φυσικής μου στο λύκειο, αμέσως μόλις τελείωσαν οι Πανελλήνιες εξετάσεις. Γνωρίζοντας το ενδιαφέρον μου για τη φυσική , θεώρησε ότι το βιβλίο αυτό ήταν ένας κατάλληλος σύντροφος για να περιηγηθώ στα μονοπάτια της εξέλιξης της επιστήμης αυτής. 

Τώρα θα αναρωτηθείτε: Τι σχέση έχει το φως με την εξέλιξη της φυσικής? Μήπως μας κοροιδεύει?

Όχι, δεν κάνω λάθος και φυσικά δε θα σας παραπλανούσα σκόπιμα. Το φως αποτελεί το μέσω με το οποίο ο γνωστός μας κόσμος φανερώνεται μπροστά μας. Μας αποκαλύπτει τα μυστικά του και κρύβει κάποια άλλα. Αποτέλεσε το πρώτο ερέθισμα για τον άνθρωπο να αναζητήσει την αιτία πίσω από τα φαινόμενα που παρακολουθεί. Μας προβλημάτισε με τη φύση του και αποτελεί πανταχού παρών μάρτυρα σε όλα τα σημαντικά γεγονότα. Από την γέννηση του σύμπαντος μέχρι το μαρασμό ενός μικρού λουλουδιού.

Συντροφεύει την ανθρώπινη διάνοια από την αρχή του χρόνου. Μας έδωσε πληροφορίες για πράγματα τόσο μεγάλα όπως ένα ηλιακό σύστημα αλλά και τόσο μικρά όσο τα υποατομικά σωματίδια. Άλλαξε τον τρόπο που ο άνθρωπος αντιλαμβάνεται τον κόσμο και μέσω των ανακαλύψεων που οφείλονται στο ίδιο αλλά και μεταφορικά μέσω των παιχνιδιών του στα έργα τέχνης.

Ενέπνευσε ζωγράφους, γλύπτες, ποιητές, συγγραφείς, φιλοσόφους και επιστήμονες χωρίς διακρίσεις. Είναι, ήταν και θα είναι καθώς ο χρόνος δεν το αγγίζει. Από την αρχή του σύμπαντος μέχρι και σήμερα, 14 δισεκατομμύρια χρόνια μετά το φως δεν σταμάτησε να ταξιδεύει χωρίς όμως να περάσει ο χρόνος από πάνω του. 

Δεν γερνάει αλλά δεν μπορεί να σταθεί και να ξεκουραστεί ούτε μια στιγμή. 

Γιατί είναι το φως.

Και το φως συντροφεύει τη Ζωή από την αρχή.

Ο Γιώργος Γραμματικάκης μετά από μια πολυετή και επίπονη, όπως ο ίδιος ομολογεί, καταφέρνει να δημιουργήσει ένα εξαιρετικό έργο τέχνης. Όμορφη γλώσσα, μαγευτικές εικόνες και καθαρότητα σκέψης χαρακτηρίζουν το έργο του χωρίς να λείπουν εδώ και εκεί τα προσωπικά του σχόλια που σε κάνουν να γελάς σιωπηλά.

TFF summit Berlin 2013: The trip

You know when a lot of people say that the road is more important than the destination itself?
Well in my case I hope the destination will prove to be more important than ths road. Otherwise what i've learned so far is that sleeping on the airport floor is NOT comfortable and that airports never sleep even though a lot of travelers including me try to. What is more, apparently in the BGY airport in Milan the departures area is open to travelers only specific hours a day and of course not during my in-the-middle-of the night stay here. The sad thing is that you have to find it all by yourself as the information kiosks are not available during the night and the sfaff isn't very helpful or friendly. Thank God Greeks are everywhere and you can find one even when you sit to eat your napoli panino and drink your no-gas drink you orderd from an only-italian speaker.. Talking about desperation?? Yep i've had my share!
Furthermore, my flight with ryanair sucked majorly! I mean the crew was more intrested in selling snacks and perfumes than to explain the safety rules. They hardly spoke english with a heavy italian accent which made things really bad..  Plus it doesn't seem to be a decent wi-fi connection.. WTF???
Fortunately i've stolen a few hours of uncomfortable yet much needed sleep and my journey is bound to continue in a few hours.
I hope the shots i've taken shows you more than i can tell (or write in that case)!

The new Miley: Part 1 - We can't stop

Αναμφισβήτητα η Miley Cyrus μετά τις ,ίσως όχι τόσο πετυχημένες ταινίες της, έρχεται για να ανατρέψει την εικόνα της ριζικά. Όλοι γνώριζαν ότι έχει κόψει τα μαλλιά της με αποτέλεσμα η εμφάνιση της να ...προκαλεί αίσθηση αν μη τι άλλο. Προσωπικά τη θεωρώ πιο όμορφη με το μακρύ καστανό μαλλί αλλά και το νέο  look την κάνει πιο fashion icon.
Στο καινούριο της τραγούδι ,λοιπόν, με τίτλο we can't stop η Miley σε ένα προκλητικό video-clip μας δείχνει όλες τος τρέλες που γίνονται στα πάρτι του σκανδαλώδους Hollywood, όπως η ίδια ομολογεί σε μια συνέντευξη της. Πινιάτα με λουκάνικα, πάρτι σε πισίνα όπου γλωσσοφιλάει μια κούκλα, σάντουιτς χρημάτων, κρανία από τηγανητές πατάτες και φυσικά TWERKING. Η Miley άφοβη για τις κριτικές φέρνει στο φως τη ζωή που τόσοι ζουν κρυφά αλλά στο φακό κατακρίνουν.
Αποφασισμένη να μη δώσει σημασία στις κακές κριτικές καθώς only God can judge us η Miley δε σταματάει να χορεύει, να τραγουδάει, να περνάει καλά και να εκφράζεται όπως θέλει.
Συμφωνώ με τη γενική ιδέα. Όντως πλέον μπορούμε να κάνουμε ό,τι θέλουμε χωρίς ενοχές και φόβο για την κοινή γνώμη. Μήπως όμως αυτή την ελευθερία τη καταχρώμαστε? Δηλαδή αν μπορούμε να κάνουμε ότι θέλουμε στον κόσμο αυτό είναι να ξεσαλώνουμε, να σκεφτόμαστε μόνο τον εαυτό μας και τα τρελά πάρτι? Αυτός είναι ο κρυφός καταπιεσμένος εαυτός μας?
Σε αυτό διαφωνώ. Ελευθερία έκφρασης και σκέψης. Να μην σε νοιάζει αν θα ντυθείς πρόστυχα γιατί σου πάει αλλά να θυμάσαι τη Sophie Lancaster και το αγόρι της ξυλοκοπήθηκαν μέχρι θανάτου γιατί ντύθηκαν gothic. Να δώσεις 5000Ε για στυλάτα γυαλιά αλλά να μην ξεχνάς τα 5000 παιδιά που πεθαίνουν καθημερινά από έλλειψη καθαρού νερού. Να κάνεις twerking όσο θες αλλά να μην ξεχνάς το gay και τη λεσβία στο σχολείο σου που έπεσαν θύμα ξυλοδαρμού γιατί έδειξαν ανοιχτά την προτίμηση τους.
Ναι Miley έχεις δίκιο. Στον κόσμο του Hollywood μπορείς να τα κάνεις όλα και το μόνο που θα έχει να αντιμετωπίσει είναι ο χλιαρός σχολιασμός από τα ΜΜΕ το οποίο έχει κάποιο ψυχολογικό βάρος. Αλλά μέσα στα 400.000 thumbs down έχεις και 700.000 thumbs up. Οι υπόλοιποι όμως δεν έχουν ούτε ένα φίλο για να κλάψουν στον ώμο του. Σε συγχαίρω για την ιδέα σου αλλά μήπως απορροφήθηκες τόσο πολύ στο δικό σου υποτιθέμενο πρόβλημα που ξέχασες τον παλιό σου ρόλο? Να είσαι διαφορετική με πιο εποικοδομητικό τρόπο? Αν θες να το θυμηθείς μπορείς να ανατρέξεις στο ίδιο σου το παρελθόν. Και για το βίντεο κλιπ, να από που θα μπορούσες να εμπνευστείς!

City of Swords (Stravaganza #6)

Very close to 3 out of 5 stars but not quite there..

 It was a short trip back to Talia and the stravaganti world that really brought back happy memories. However, as a book it didn't stand to my expectations..

 The story-line is pretty strong: Laura ,a 16 year old desperate girl, resolves to self-harming to ease the pain of her demons. The reason why she turns to cutting herself i'll leave it to you to find out as i consider it to be one of the most moving scenes in the book (though i didn't like the way it was described...I expected a more personal and eotional scene). But being one of the sad in Islington, makes you a candidate Stravaganti. So when Prince Jaccobo di Chimici of Fortezza leaves his last breath, Talia is in danger of a great turmoil. So the time comes for a new stravaganti to appear and save the fragile peace of Talia once more. Laura is the chosen one this time but her role is more complicated than the others because duty and love divide Laura's heart.

Laura's task is to travel to Talia with fer talisman, a silver dagger (what an irony it is!) so she can help Princess Luccia to claim and keep her rightfull place on the throne of Fortezza. But on the same time Ludo, a Manoush we met earlier in the series appears to be Jaccobo's elder and only son, an illegitimate one though. The citizens of Fortezza are divided between their loyalty to the royal family and Luccia, a female ruler, and to to Ludo, the new-comer and a male ruler. Finally a civil war starts and Ludo fight for the throne. 

Now, we can all imagine what is the reaction of the rest of the di Chimici family members. So Fortezza is under siege from the army gathered to provide tha Luccia will rise to the throne. Laura's job is to travel between the city and the castle the prncess is held and help Puccia to get back on her throne. The only problem is her love for Ludo. Though in the end it is that love that will save so many lives including their own.

On the same time the other stravaganti are not idle. Rodolfo and Luciano travel tty to coordinate the Orders actions and travel to the City of Swords to provide their help so Luccia is crowned Princess and save as many lives as they can. Lucciano is to marry Arianna (great story!!) but he puts himself in immense danger many times.. 

Except for laura there are two new guest Stravaganti as a surprise. New friendhips are born and old problems emerge from the depth of the heros's hearts. But you have to read to find them out!

What I didn't like...:

Laura story is not fully developed. She keeps repeating the same things over and over. What is more she is cast aside from Lucianno, Nick annd the other stravagante. I know that we have to learn about the others but Laura is such a minor character that i got the feeling that the book wasn;t about her at all. 

The descriptions are shorter than the previous books. I didn't live Fortezza unlike Belezza or Giglia. Something was amiss. The writer developed a great plot with turns and twists (though not unexpected) but doesn't write about life in Fortezza. The city is just a name and not a city-state with its own rules and life.

Last but not least..I almost got bored. I expected everything that happened. There wasn't the element of surprise or the an unexpected turn. For heaven's shake even the previous Stravaganti expected that Laura would be the new one!!

For those who have read the previous books it is a must resd but don't expect to be thrilled.
